The world famous founder of unisex style

The world famous founder of the Unisex style, Yves Saint Laurent, was born in Algeria in 1936. Even in the early years, the mother noticed creativity in the boy and tried to develop design skills in him. After the family moved to Paris at the age of 18, Yves was already professionally engaged in the development of fashionable clothes.

At the same time, he is noticed by the already renowned fashion designer Christian Dior, who takes the young master to himself as an assistant. And in 1957, after the death of Dior, Saint-Laurent became a full-fledged art directorate of the House of Fashion Christian Dior.

A year later, the designer presented the first own collection of dresses for girls from lightweight fabrics and dresses without waists. The model range was named “Trapezium” and was enthusiastically received by the public.

After the first debut, Saint-Laurent took a bold step and created the Beatnik collection, in which the girls were dressed in leather rocker jackets and helmets for bikers. This challenge was not positively perceived by the then fashion critics, and the young quarters had to leave the company Christian Dior.

Saint Laurent does not despair and creates his own Fashion House Yves Saint Laurent, which will later become world famous thanks to the YSL brand logo. In the 60s, he created several popular collections that were appreciated both by critics and women of fashion: "Forest Robin", "Bambara", "Safari", "Leitmotif". At the same time, the release of the original perfume line "Rive Gauche".

Fans of YSL style celebrate the severity of the dress and with it elegance, cut accuracy with the use of luxurious and bright fabrics. Dresses for women from the collections of Willow can be used for business meetings, and for romantic dates, and for showing on the catwalks. Guided by the principle of “Beauty without excesses”, the couturier created clothes that emphasize impeccable style and can be very seductive for men.

In 1971, a fashionable guru creates a fundamentally new Unisex style that erases the line between male and female. Clothes, shoes, and later cosmetics and perfumes lose their signs indicating that they belong to the floor.

Initially, such a bold decision was critically perceived by the world community. But the social trends that emerged in the second half of the 20th century: the hippie and feminist movements, the struggle for gender equality were the reason for the development of the Unisex concept. Women sought to be not only seductive in their outfits, but also to wear what is convenient, practical, comfortable.

In the following decades, Yves Saint Laurent continues to refer to the principles of "Unisex" in his collections, creating new masterpieces. In the 90s, this style reaches the peak of its development: more and more fashion designers from around the world turn to it. At the same time, Saint-Laurent, at the same time, creates new items for pop and movie stars, and is developing shoe and perfumery.

In 1999, the YSL brand goes back to Gucci, and by 2002, Yves Saint Laurent leaves the world of high fashion, leaving behind a huge legacy and fundamentally new approaches to the development of clothing, shoes, perfumes and accessories.

Style Concepts

The impetus for the development of this style gave a change in male and female roles in society at the turn of the 60s and 70s. The feminist movement and the struggle for women's rights led to the development of practical and comfortable men's clothing and uniforms among women. The girls wanted to wear not only seductive and elegant clothes, but also practical wardrobe items, in which it is convenient to take walks, play sports, and drive in a car.

Such trends in public life could not be overlooked by fashion designers. The creator of the "Unisex" style, Yves Saint-Laurent, launched new models of trousers, shirts, pullovers and jackets on the world's catwalks. The ladies trouser suit developed by him became world famous. Subsequently, his principles spread to accessories and shoes, hairstyles, perfumes and makeup.

The first items from the series "Unisex" is considered to be jeans. The fashion for them appeared before the collections of Saint-Laurent in the mid 60s of the last century. The slogan "for him and for her" has become the motto of cowboys, workers and informal movements. Indeed, the jeans models of that time were produced without distinction of belonging to the floor; there were no visual differences, for example, the left or right fastener. Therefore, representatives of the advanced youth boldly walked around in men's pants, and no one saw anything reprehensible in this.

Shoes without stilettos and heels, in which you can comfortably stay all day, has become another defining feature of the Unisex style. Women began to walk confidently in sneakers and sneakers, men's low shoes. Practical and harmless style migrated to the catwalks and fashion world shows. And later in women's wardrobes new items of asexual footwear appeared: ugg boots, timberlands, felt boots and rubber boots.

Uggs - originally men's sheep wool boots for Australian farmers have become insanely popular these days. Timberlands are heavy boots with military style lacing. A rubber boots with a bright pattern or pattern and stylish felt boots of bright colors will not be missed by any fashionista today.

Stylish outfits

If at the origin of the “Unisex” style women tried to emphasize their emancipation and feminist views with their appearance, today they dress like this mainly for convenience and everyday practicality. The hostess outfit wants to look perfect and attractive and, at the same time, not to experience discomfort.

One of the most popular outfits today is a versatile denim set: jacket, pants, vest and shirt. Fabrics should be chosen not too defiant colors, bright colors. A tie without tightening, hanging loosely around your neck and a hat with a brim to match the color of the main suit will perfectly suit such clothes.

Perhaps the most common materials of clothing Unisex - is denim. In one way or another, they were worn by every woman who did not even know about the existence of this style. Classic blue jeans and a jacket in combination with sneakers allow you to create an elegant casual look that is especially relevant for young people.

Tuxedo with trousers and women's trouser suits of dark business colors, created by Saint Laurent in the 70s, are invariably popular in our days. They perfectly highlight the business style and add a certain sophistication to the appearance of any lady. And the pants with a YSL jacket are very well applied at a banquet, a meeting or an important meeting.

For the one who founded the “Unisex” style, all fashionable clothes, shoes and accessories were the fruits of many years of hard work. Yves Saint Laurent admitted that out of several thousands of sketches he developed, he chose only dozens of the most successful ones - only they came out. Therefore, many consider his collections as unique masterpieces in the fashion world.
