Scandinavian style

Scandinavian style

The Scandinavian style impersonates itself not only in the interior, but also in clothing. Swedes, Danes and Norwegians are committed to rigor, brevity and maximum convenience in everything. This is due to the geographical position of Scandinavia and its climate - rather harsh in relation to the whole of other Europe. Cold winters and cool summers do not leave a chance to air and frivolous outfits.

The Scandinavian style leads its history from King Gustav III, who, for the edification of all his subjects, completely altered the palace, making an ascetic dwelling out of luxurious apartments. As the designers would say now, he made the main emphasis on natural materials and natural sunlight, which nature doesn’t pamper the people of the north.

Style features

The Scandinavian style of dress for women has four main distinguishing features: ethnic pattern, layering, simplicity of cut and natural warm fabrics.

  • Ethnic pattern - the first thing you can determine that in front of you clothes come from northern Europe. Of course, all the things of the Nordic wardrobe are not decorated with ethnic motifs, but the famous sweater with deer is in every Scandinavian cabinet. The most popular motifs are the eight-pointed star (or snowflake), Christmas trees, and deer. Usually they decorate knitted things: sweaters, hats, mittens, socks. At the same time, they are relevant not only for women and children, but also for men.
  • Layering - climatically conditioned feature. The more layers of clothing a person wears, the warmer they are. If you take a resident of modern Scandinavia, he prefers to wear a cardigan, put on a vest over it, put on a volume scarf and complement a coat of a wide cut.
  • Simplicity of cut also depends on the weather conditions of Denmark, Sweden and Norway. Difficult details and decorative elements on clothes will simply not be visible behind several layers of clothing, and intricate fasteners in the form of hooks and strings will only interfere with daily dressing. The outerwear is dominated by straight silhouettes, which allows, on occasion, to dress like “cabbage”.
  • Natural fabrics - a prerequisite for any northern clothing. The climate simply does not allow such lightheadedness, like synthetic sweaters and pants. The most popular fabric is wool. In the manufacture of knitted things, woolen threads with additions of elastane are also used. However, in the summer season, cotton and linen are equally in demand.

Female image

Scandinavians are distinguished by naturalness in everything. Do not overdo it with makeup, your face should be fresh and shine. But shine not glossy fashion magazine, and as if you slept well. The main weapon of these women is an expressive look, therefore, despite the light skin, they prefer to use black mascara. Hairstyles are also not given much attention: no complicated curls, ingenious haircuts. Usually it is long natural hair or the simplest haircut.

The color scheme of the wardrobe goes in monochrome. Women in northern Europe prefer gray, beige, cream colors, while ignoring the bright shades. White color is preferably worn in the summer. However, a combination of basic colors with some matte blue, green or red is allowed. They generally prefer haze in fabrics and color.

The amount of jewelry made of precious metals is minimal. This component of the female image is so not popular that for the entire large shopping center you will find only a few jewelry departments. Preference should be given to silver and authentic models of leather, wood, feathers. You can turn to the Viking Age - hryvnia, bracers, amulets.

Accessories should be practical and comfortable. No clutches or similar ladies' handbags. If the bag is large, baggy, with the ability to carry as in the hand, on the shoulder, and transform into a backpack.

Scandinavians prefer shoes with a solid sole, but the evening look suggests wearing wedge-heeled shoes.

Male image

Men of the north - this is a classic version of the bow, beaten in a new light. Severe nords prefer straight cut outerwear, a minimum amount of decorative details and a dark monochrome color scheme. They recycle fashion for themselves, making clothing sets stylish and practical.

This season is popular street military style. The Scandinavians, taking it as a basis, gave their own interpretation - a classic coat, a sweater under the throat, shortened skinny pants with cuffs, which do not cover the shaft of military boots. From the "military" there are only shoes, but they are the main accessory, which focuses attention. They set the tone for this image.

In 2017, the H & M brand almost 100% meets the needs of Scandinavian men. He made a bias towards natural fabrics, calm colors and models with a simple cut. The new collection is made of cashmere and merino, in addition, it contains things from bulk yarn, which gives a pronounced texture. The special feature of the season is clothes made from recycled wool.

And of course, the representatives of the strong half must have in their wardrobe a knitted sweater with deer or other corporate ethnic pattern.

How to create the perfect image

If you like things made in the Scandinavian style, but you do not want to completely rebuild your wardrobe, then knowing a few rules, you can easily bring elements of ethnicity into your usual bow and be harmonious at the same time.

  • Knitted sweaters can be worn with thin chiffon skirts;
  • Fitted vests of leather or suede, trimmed with fur, combined with fur shoes;
  • A straight coat in combination with a volume scarf will add a “northern patina” to any things.
