Rococo style in clothes

Rococo is a charming and incredibly flirty style. The name "Rococo" comes from the French term "rocaille", which was designated as a decorative stone or shells, because originally this style was used in the interior, and later in clothing.

This direction came from the XVIII century, when not less magnificent, but calmer outfits came to change clothes in the style of pompous baroque. This "calm" was expressed in the color range of products, it is, as a rule, wardrobe items of discreet pastel shades. Rococo style clothing is elegant and light, it is a luxurious palace style and feminine elegance.

Features

Rococo style in clothing is characterized by the following features.

Perfect waist. Thin waist has long been the pride of every girl, but not every lady had an aspen waist. In this case, women of the Rococo era had their own little trick - a corset! With the help of this element of the wardrobe, the ladies formed a chiseled waist, even at the cost of their own health. After all, the constant use of the corset entailed not only discomfort. Corsets of that time with a constant wear could greatly deform the skeleton.

Gloves, stockings and fan. The fan could be decorated in various ways with ruffles, lace or fringe. But if the fan was considered an additional item of the whole image, then light silk gloves and stockings were mandatory attributes of a rococo style attire.

Flowers Initially used artificial flowers embroidered with silk. Along with them, dresses and hairstyles for women were decorated with fresh flowers. After a while, the female ensemble was decorated with jewelry in the form of flowers, or various tiaras depicting bouquets made with the use of precious stones and metals.

Lush dresses and skirts. The already fluffy dresses inherent in the Rococo style were complemented with equally fluffy skirts. Skirts, as well as dresses, were decorated with all the details inherent in rococo: natural and artificial flowers, ruffles, ribbons and bows.

The ensemble was complemented by puffy skirts, called “panje”, which translates as “basket”. This incredibly voluminous detail, together with the waist tightened by the corset, turned the silhouette into the shape of an inverted glass.

Hoops in a dress. This element is inherent in the second half of the 18th century, when with the help of hoops the dress began to take not round, but oval.

Distorted lines. Rococo style is inherent in some kind of distortion of the natural figure. This is manifested in an unnaturally thin waist, fragile shoulders, a round face and a transition from the waist line to the thighs, which is unusual for a real figure.

Colour. The main positions in the wardrobe were given to pale shades. It could be a pale blue, pale pink or light yellow shade.

Asymmetry. It was peculiar in dresses of both women and men. Along with the wardrobe items, the emphasis on asymmetry could be present in the hairstyle or accessories.

Underwear and bodice shape. As for the underwear, it was performed very luxuriously. As it is known, the dress of the Rococo epoch allowed the linen to “look out” from under the dress, therefore it was embroidered elegantly: silk, silver, gold and lace. The bodice was distinguished by its elongated shape in the form of a triangle.

Materials The most common materials used to create rococo dresses were chintz and satin.

Sleeves. The sleeves of products were richly decorated with ribbons and lace. The sleeve cut was distinguished by a narrowing towards the elbow.

In modern clothes

Modern clothing is significantly different from the pristine rococo dresses. Of course, it is possible that at some masquerade there will be a magnificent image with elements inherent in this style.

Modern clothing in the rococo style is distinguished by the presence of dark shades in color. If earlier Rococo did not anticipate brown, gray and even black colors, then the modern interpretation of the style allows you to create outfits in these shades.

Now, as before, the thin waist and open fragile shoulders are a certain rococo business card. Sexuality and sophistication inherent in this style, is present to this day, it is clearly expressed in dresses with the presence of corset lacing.

The décor of modern dresses in the Rococo style is decorated with all the same elements inherent in this direction. These can be flowers, bows, ruffles, ribbons or fringe. Rococo style dresses make great use of the stars. For example, Lady Gaga willingly puts on stage costumes not only in avant-garde style, but also actively uses Rococo.

The most appropriate event today for a bright presentation of the rococo style is the wedding. Of course! What could be more attractive than a light, romantic bridal outfit? The classic wedding dress in its style repeats the original rococo style attire. "Inverted glass" today is almost the main silhouette of a wedding dress.

The corset helps to hide the existing figure flaws, and the full skirt will hide full hips or excessively thin legs.

Rococo implies the use of many different accessories. Today, adhering to this style of clothing in modern fashion, you need to remember about the presence of jewelry in the image. Rococo accessories are always voluminous with lots of stones and other decorations. As before, today hairstyles are also decorated: the use of a rim with rhinestones or the presence of a flower decoration in a hair style will give out a rococo style at first glance.

The use of an elegant handbag is welcomed in modern rococo. If earlier these were miniature “handbags-bags”, today they have somewhat changed. The size is a little beyond the “bag”, and the bag is decorated with exquisite embroidery.

Paying attention and making a choice in favor of the modern Rococo style, it is worth remembering that in order to appear in a modern business society it is better to use other outfits. After all, the Rococo itself, like the era of its inception, is frivolous and windy style.

The mere appearance, for example, in the office in this outfit can spoil the impression of a person over the years. Therefore, to approach the choice of the image in the Rococo style stands with the utmost attention and sober calculation.
