How to dry gel polish

How to dry gel polish

A beautiful woman is largely determined by a well-groomed manicure. With the advent of gel polish, to keep the coating more durable has become much easier. A manicure with a gel polish will be “worn” from two weeks, depending on the rate of growth of the own nail plate.

Some fashionistas manage to pass without chipping and flaking up to one month.

A good manicure determines the correctness of applying the gel polish with the mandatory use of a base top and a fixer, quality materials used in the work, and, of course, compliance with the technology of drying the coating in a special lamp.

About how much gel polish should be dried in the lamp in order for the coating to delight you for a long time, and will be discussed in this article.

Features of the procedure

As noted above, the peculiarity of the procedure lies in the special conditions for drying the coating in the lamp. To do this, use UV lamps, LED or lamps of the combined type.

It is theoretically possible to dry an ordinary gel polish (if it is not a special non-light sensitive product) and without a lamp, because the sun's rays also contain ultraviolet light.

This process will take a lot of time and the quality of the manicure will leave much to be desired - uneven drying in the fresh air will lead to flaking, bloating of the coating and staining of your natural nail. Therefore, it is better to use a special lamp - the benefit of what to choose from.

Lamp power determines the drying time of the coating. Generally, manufacturers produce UV lamps with power from 9 to 54 W, LED devices with a range of 12-45 W and a hybrid with 36 W of power.

UV lamp is perfect for drying shellac with a corresponding mark. In the LED-model, it is customary to dry the product marked “LED”. The hybrid lamp is suitable for drying any gel polish.

How much to keep

For home use, you can buy a small UV lamp of 9 watts; in this case, it will take 6-10 minutes to dry. For professional use, you will need a 36-watt UV unit that will dry your nails in 2 minutes. Lamps of 48 W and above are intended solely for use in beauty salons by professional craftsmen.

In the LED model, nails should be kept for only 10-30 seconds - the coating during this time will have time to cure and become hard and durable.

LED equipment is small in size, which is very convenient; moreover, unlike a UV lamp, it does not heat up during operation. Moreover, the life of LED lamps on average reaches 5 years, which is very economical in operation.

The main advantage of the UV unit is its ability to dry any shellac, which the LED lamp cannot boast.

A short drying time can provide a hybrid lamp - just 30 seconds. Such an apparatus is suitable for drying absolutely any material: gel varnish, colored LED - coating, biogel.

In many ways, the choice of the lamp depends on its purpose - for drying any shellac in the cabin or a particular brand at home, as well as personal preferences.

It should be noted that it is necessary to dry the gel polish correctly - if it is not dried, the coating will be fragile and will quickly crack, exfoliate, in a word, will become unusable. And most importantly - if you dry out gel polish, then nothing will happen. The product just cures and that's it. No metamorphosis will happen to him. Consider this in your work when creating your perfect manicure.

Sometimes unforeseen difficulties with the quality of the coating can occur in the work of a nail master or amateur — gel lacquer blisters, shrivels, collects. Let's find out what to do in such cases and how to avoid them.

Why does it roll up

If you are confident in the quality of the gel polish, the reason why it coagulates is in the insufficient polymerization of the coating.

Some, in particular, colored types of shellac have a more dense and thick texture, with the result that they require additional drying. When applying such gel varnishes, carefully follow the technology of application - dry each layer in a special lamp for the amount of time that is necessary for this model to completely dry the product.

You should also reduce the amount of gel when applying each layer for varnishes, saturated with pigments, to avoid wrinkling film on the surface of the nail.

Lead to the fact that the gel polish does not dry out and is going to, maybe a failed lamp for drying. In this case, you must replace the broken part or purchase a new lamp.

Often beginners can complain that the top layer is sticking. Do not immediately doubt the quality of the gel polish or lamp power. The fact is that during drying the hardened coating becomes sticky with the upper top layer. In this case, you only need to wipe the nail with a special tool (degreaser) to make the manicure complete.

In that case, when erasing a sticky layer, the gel polish remains soft after drying, it is a matter of poor-quality material or a thick layer of the applied product.. Often, a dent may even form at the point of contact. Such a damaged nail should be sanded with a file, removing excess material, and apply a thinner layer of gel polish. Dry each layer until completely dry.

Another problem that can be encountered when working with shellac is the burning of the nail plate. This trouble can occur for two reasons: thin, weakened, damaged nails under a layer of gel polish or too much product on the surface of the nail plate.

The fact is that a lot of heat is released when the gel transitions from a liquid to a solid state.

If the process takes place too intensively, then the nail can be significantly damaged. If you are a nail master, in this case such exclamations like “burn!” And “bake!” Will accompany all your work.

To avoid this problem, it is necessary to apply a gel polish with a thin layer, especially on damaged nails. In this case, the polymerization process will be slow and painless.

Working only with high-quality materials, the use of basecoats and substrates will help to avoid unpleasant moments when creating a manicure with gel varnish. Do not forget also to regularly change the lamp in the UV model (every 3-6 months).

What to dry at home

As noted above, gel polish, which requires drying in a special lamp, does not harden on air. But to make a beautiful and high-quality manicure yourself without a lamp is quite possible.

The fact is that all gel polishes can be divided into light-sensitive, requiring hardening in the lamp, and non-light-sensitive, which dry in air or in water.

Non-light sensitive shellacs are very similar to ordinary varnishes.

The only difference is that the former do not harden without a special catalyst. On top of the gel polish should apply a special creamy or liquid product, only with its help the product will become solid.

Today in the shops you can find gel polishes, solidifying without a lamp and additional catalysts. It is enough to dip the nails in cold water for 8-10 minutes so that the gel polish hardens.

The inscription on the bottle “NO-light gel” indicates that you have a product that does not require drying in the lamp. If such an inscription is absent, then by default it means that a special UV lamp for drying is simply necessary for hardening the coating.

For self-manicure at home, it will be more convenient to spread a small amount of non-photosensitive gel polish on the palette and apply it with a brush to the nail plate. So a layer of material will be as thin as possible. Then fix the product with a catalyst (it is more convenient to use a spray) or put your hands in water.

Replace the gel polish on the similarity of the effect on the nails can special varnishes with a vitreous coating. They do not require drying lamp, but the duration of wearing a manicure will not be so long.

And finally, I would like to note the sequence of stages of manicure gel varnish, strict observance of which will make you the owner of a high-quality and super-sock coating:

First, you should very carefully handle the free edge of the nail, make it as smooth and cleaned of dust. Remove the top layer with a nail file. Especially this rule applies to nails after a manicure with scissors or a cutter. Nails must be degreased and dried for at least 10 minutes, otherwise the coating will peel off.

At the second stage, it is necessary to put a base top on the nails, which serves as a kind of primer for gel polish.

Then you should apply the base shellac of your chosen shade. The basic rule for this - the layer should be as thin as possible! Dry each layer in a polymerization lamp.

And finally, the last stage - covering the finishing gel. It will protect your shellac-coating and give your nails a beautiful shine. It is also necessary to dry the finishing top in the lamp well. If the finish coating, drying out, forms a sticky film, then it should be removed with a special tool after complete drying.

Apply a little caring oil to the cuticle. Your perfect manicure is ready!
