Folk style

Folk style

For the umpteenth time in designer collections you can see fashionable clothes in folk style. And this should not be surprising. Originality and authenticity, brightness and originality of the folk style in clothes always attracted famous designers of the world. In the spring-summer season of 2017, top designers such as Dolce & Gabbana, Byblos, Custo Barcelona, Etro and Roberto Cavalli, Blumarine show folk-style clothing at their shows.

Who and how made it popular

It turns out that the fashion for folk style in clothes is directly connected with hippies. The thing is, the hippies had their own original idea of what they should look like. But they could not manage to find what they needed in clothing stores. Therefore, the hippie had no choice but to create their own stores, where they could buy suitable wardrobe items and accessories to create their own image.

These clothes were from natural fabrics of ethnic style of free cut. It is noteworthy that it was the hippies who adhered to the idea of a large variety of images and original colors in the creation of dresses.

As for world recognition, for the first time the London fashion show “hippie fashion” was presented to the whole world in 1967, after which the fashionable tendency to create images based on originality and diversity of national folk costumes arose.

However, the very recognition of the fashion for folk style came only in 1968, after the release of the Saharienne collection by the famous French fashion designer Yves Saint Laurent, where African motifs were taken as the basis. So the style of folk became fashionable, and accordingly, clothes in folk style too. Fashionable clothes in the style of folk has become in demand all over the world.

That is why, speaking of the history of the emergence of the folklore style, everyone associates its appearance equally, as with Yves Saint Laurent, and with the hippies. In the future, for all fashion designers this was the impetus to create something new and special in the world of fashion.

What it is

Answering the question what it is - folklore style, we mean the style that bears in itself the elements of national costumes of the peoples of the world. He is closely intertwined with the style of ethno, which appeared much earlier than folk. In folklore, in contrast to ethnicity, there is no obligatory absolutely exact reproduction of any national attire.

In the folk, the bow is distinguished by any one or several elements of the costume of one nationality or several peoples, thereby simply highlighting and emphasizing the originality of the created new modern image, but with national motifs in clothing. The ethnic style reproduces the elements of the national costume of a certain people (ethnic group).

Despite the relevance of eclecticism in the folk style, it is not necessary to subject all its elements to chaotic combination and confusion. There are combinations of valid and invalid, and they should be aware of. The variety of folklore style means African, Slavic, Asian, Scandinavian, Latin American style and so on. Diversity implies a reasonable combination of texture and structure of fabrics with patterns, embroidery and ornaments in clothes, it is not a “hodgepodge” of all elements of national costumes in a row.

Folk Variety

Explaining with the example of the Asian style, and these are Thai, Chinese, Japanese, Vietnamese, Mongolian, Arabic and many other Oriental styles, it is necessary to pay attention to the similarity of cultures.

The east occupies a large geographic area, and the cultural heritage in different eastern countries can be both similar and diametrically opposite. For example, Israel is the Middle East, where mostly Jews live, and in the far eastern Mongolia there are other folk customs and traditions, and Buddhism mostly flourishes.

That is why there can in no way be a Mongol-Jewish style, or especially Vietnamese-Finnish: such a mixture is unacceptable. Then this is not fashionable clothes, but its parody. For this reason, do not forget to also choose the appropriate accessories and jewelry to match the fashionable image.

Distinctive characteristics

The naturalness of fabrics and materials. For sewing outfits use those fabrics and materials that belong to their nationality, but only natural, like our ancestors. The most different can be used, but which ones depend on the national traditions of the country. In the Slavic countries, flax and cotton are common, in the Scandinavian countries - wool, in the eastern countries - silk and jacquard, and in African countries - leather, suede and fur.

Naturally, cotton fabrics were used not only by the Slavic peoples, but also, for example, by African tribes, or silk - not only in the East, but also in Africa, and there are many such examples. The only common distinguishing feature is that there is no synthetics in clothes at all.

Colorful or natural color and geometric pattern in clothing. Regarding the colors, the images are either bright and colorful, or delicate and natural, taboo only in black. Why geometry? The answer is obvious: each nation has its own sacred secrets, which in the form of various certain symbols found their reflection just in geometric ornaments and patterns.

Straight or trapezoidal silhouette. Convenience to wear. Clothing should not be tight and hold down in movements, so it is straight or trapezoidal in shape. Sweaters loose and large knit. Skirts are long or knee length. Dresses or blouses have wide sleeves that taper to the wrist. Speaking of shoes, it should be noted that here, as in clothes, the main thing is convenience. The sole in the shoe is flat or with a low heel.

Originality finishes attire. Again, it all depends on the national characteristics of a particular country. Finishes are very diverse. It can be different embroidery, ornaments, lace and weaving, including patchwork (the so-called patchwork), all sorts of ruffles and appliqués, special clasps with various metal details, as well as various decorative designs using stones, fur, beads, and beads other decorations.

Very often used manual work. Finishing can be present everywhere: on collars, and on sleeves, and in front, and even behind, and including on various accessories (belts, wallets, bags, etc.).

But even if you are not fans of this style, in fact in our closet there will definitely be some thing relating to the style of folk. For example, a gypsy skirt, a Japanese robe, a tunic dress, a large casual knit sweater in the Scandinavian style, trousers, cowboy hat, leather or suede jacket with a fringe in the Latin American style, poncho, sandals, felt boots, Indian-style baubles in African style, various amulets and more.

Summing up the above, we can say with confidence that the folklore style is not only a unique trend in fashion that incorporates a large variety of shapes, colors, textures and various variations, it is light, comfortable and fashionable clothes that were relevant yesterday and will be actual tomorrow.
