Hat homburg

Riddle for connoisseurs of the fashion world: what unites Winston Churchill, Hercule Poirot and Justin Timberlake? At first glance, these individuals cannot be connected in any way, because they are representatives of different eras, social strata and even realities. But there is still something that tied them together - this is love for one exquisite, masculine accessory - the Homburg hat.

Features

Homburg is a classic men's hat, first made in Germany. The name of this headdress comes from the name of the town in which they were originally produced. The classic version of the Homburg hat is made of hard felt, and the wide flax, traditionally decorated with a crown, is made of semi-silk fabric. Outwardly, this hat is with a rather high or middle crown, topped with a deep notch at the top and narrow, bent upwards fields. Traditional for this headdress is considered to be gray. In the classic version allowed the use of ribbons, matched to match the hat. The ends of the ribbon were tied into a flat bow, which was ironed so that it was almost imperceptible. Sometimes such a hat was decorated with a bunch of feathers.

Story

Hat business master Philippe Mekkel had a lot of experience in the production of classic hats, but he always strove for new, interesting designs. So at his hat factory in Bad Homburg they began to produce new visas for hats, but for a long time she was not in great demand. This situation changed radically on August 29, 1882. The heir to the English throne, Prince Edward VII, visited his nephew Wilhelm II in his country estate in Germany. Wilhelm wore a new, unusual for those times hat to hunt. The future king was very interested in this headdress. He ordered such a hat from Philip Meckel, which was made in his usual gray color, and began to wear it with a classic suit. So Homburg’s hat burst into men's fashion at the end of the 19th century and ousted the then-popular bowlers and top hats. Up until the 1950s, this hat was an essential part of a business men's suit.

Hat today

Classic options for hats are rapidly returning to fashion. Today, the Homburg hat is not only a male, but also a female accessory, complementing both formal and informal images. The appearance of this hat softened a bit: the crown became smaller and much more elegant, the brim of the hat became narrower. Modern versions of the hat allow its sewing from felt and even weaving from straw.

Regarding the ribbon, traditionally adorning the crown, the rules have become even softer: now it can be chosen not only in the color of the hat, but also contrasted with it.

This hat is perfect for a chic business suit or denim jacket, waistcoat or T-shirt. Different combinations of this hat will give the image of lightness or solidity.

Fashionable Images

Handsome Jude Law, known to us as Dr. Watson from the movie “Sherlock Holmes. The game of shadows ”, and Pope Pius XIII from the TV series“ Young Pope ”, is famous for the love of good clothes and expensive accessories. He was seen in the regular use of hats in his images. So he added a strict light gray jacket to a narrow black tie and a classic version of a black felt Homburg hat. It is noteworthy that the hat and tie are made of very similar fabrics. Such attention to detail speaks of the great taste of the actor.

Famous macho and the dream of many girls Channing Tatum also boasts the presence of a smart black hat Homburg in his wardrobe. However, the actor wears it in an unusual situation for this thing. In the image of the actor some negligence and disregard for the rules are read: a well-ironed, sparkling white shirt is unbuttoned on the chest, and a strict vest with a narrow white stripe is not buttoned at all. This rebel image perfectly complements the Homburg hat with a contrasting white ribbon.

Comedian Terrence Howard has completed his classic black suit with a bold gray hat from woven straw Homburg. At first glance, such a combination may seem frivolous and irrelevant, but the wide silk ribbon that adorns the hat of the hat and the slight metallic glow gave this headdress an incredible chic. Such a bright contrast of textures and colors is very stylishly combined in the image of an actor and gives him mystery, nobility and elegance.

Justin Timberlake, another hat connoisseur, has in his wardrobe several Homburg hats. With a classic black version of this hat, it complements the look with a strict black coat and a volume scarf. He wears a black hat with a multi-layer tape to the image with a knitted vest. He combines a brown hat with informal looks, vests and jackets, chains and jeans. He is seen in the gray version of this hat. To her, he picked up the perfect, classic gray suit with a scarf.

Considering the images in which the Homburg hat is used can not be bypassed by the character of David Suchet in the series “Poirot Agatha Christie”. In this series, the image of the detective Hercule Poirot is presented as the greatest connoisseur of the classics in clothing. All his outfits are refined and perfectly groomed. And in each there is a hat. This image is an example of the classic use of this hat.
