Based on the knowledge of scientists of past years, an American artist and part-time teacher Albert Munsell built a whole system in which he developed a color space. He conducted research on the shades, analyzed the color in different dimensions.

For the study were taken: red, purple, yellow, green, blue colors, which were placed in a pie chart. Between the colors were the main tones, which as a result of mixing formed more than a hundred shades.

Thus, thanks to practical methods and a detailed examination of the color gamut, a scientific basis has emerged, on which modern coloristics began to draw.

Albert Munsell divided the color into dark, light, soft, clean, warm, cold.

1. Seasonal - one of the first methods. It consisted in the ratio of skin, hair and eyes with one of the four seasons.

2. The directional method appeared after the seasonal lost its relevance. Along with the new name, other characteristics appeared, they were similar to the definition of color by the Albert Munsell system.
