Jeans for pregnant women with their own hands

Jeans for pregnant women with their own hands

Pregnancy is a beautiful, but short time. Changing the entire wardrobe due to a few months is a costly business, so there is a natural desire to save. In this article we will explain how to convert ordinary jeans into jeans for pregnant women. We will replace the fragment with a dense elastic knitted insert under the growing tummy.

How to alter jeans for pregnant women

For this we need old jeans, a piece of thick, elastic knitwear about 50 centimeters long with a fabric width of 150 centimeters, scissors, threads, a sewing machine and a little patience. Knitwear can be bought, and you can use for this purpose an old unnecessary T-shirt or the upper part of knitted tights. It is better not to be greedy, and the material is still to be bought, because how comfortable the knitted insert will be is the convenience of wearing, and this, you see, is very important.

So, we take jeans, with small ones for the fabric, we note the excess - the part that has ceased to converge on the stomach and cut off behind the coquette line of jeans, in front - in a semicircle. Do not forget to leave an allowance of 1 centimeter! The zipper must either be completely cut off, or unpicked and neatly sewn up its fly. All that interferes with making an even cut is gently stripped.

How to sew an insert

Take a piece of knit fabric, fold it in half. Try on, peel and make side seam. The same stitch must be processed on the overlock, and if it is not, then on the sewing machine we pass through a zigzag stitch.

Sew on knitted insert to cut jeans manually. Try on. If the result suits you, we stitch and process the seam on the sewing machine so that it does not crumble. Jeans for pregnant women are ready!

Similarly, not only jeans can be redone, but also any pants and skirts made of thick, poorly stretchable fabric.

Another interesting and simple option is to make ordinary jeans ... overalls! It is not as difficult as it seems at first glance.

How to convert jeans into overalls

We will need old jeans, threads, scissors, 15 centimeters thick and elastic knitted fabric, thick fabric cut, denim (for the front insert and shoulder straps), two buttons, a wide elastic band (elastic band) equal to the waist circumference + 2 centimeters on seam allowance.

First, prepare the product for further processing. At jeans we otparivaem a belt, we unpack side seams on depth of 10-12 centimeters. We cut out two triangles from the knit fabric with sides of 12 centimeters and a base of 10 centimeters. Dimensions are approximate, you can make cuts deeper and triangles for inserts, respectively, they must also be in this case longer along the sides. This is solved by fitting. Do not forget to make allowances of 1-1.5 centimeters. The obtained parts sew side jeans. To the front side of jeans we apply a pre-stitched in a circle elastic tape, sew, stepping back from the edge of 1 centimeter. We turn away, we sew from the seamy side to close the jeans cut with an allowance for the seam of the elastic tape.

Thus, we have turned jeans with side elastic inserts and elastic tape instead of a belt. You can stop at this.

But we will go further. We cut a trapezium with a base of 35 centimeters (plus 2 centimeters for allowances on each side) from the dense fabric; the upper part of the trapezium should be 18 cm, and the lateral sides should be 30 centimeters. We connect the top and bottom of the future trapezoid with the help of a ruler, draw small lines for the fabric. Cut the part. This will be the front of our jumpsuit. The top part and the side parts of the trapezoid we turn and we trim. The lower part is treated with an overlock or a zigzag stitch. Sew on the front of the jeans.

Cut out the back of the suit. To do this, we draw shallow, directly on the fabric, another trapezoid with a base of 18 centimeters, lateral sides — 27 centimeters each, and the upper side — 8 centimeters. Do not forget about the allowances of 2 centimeters on each side of the trapezoid! We turn in and out like the front of a jumpsuit, sew in the back to the elastic belt of our jeans. It remains to make the straps of our overalls. To do this, we cut out two strips of fabric with a width of 6 centimeters or the length you need, which is determined during fitting. For example, with the growth of 164 centimeters, the straps are 42 centimeters long. Each part is folded in half with the front side inward, stitched on the sewing machine side slices and one of the short slices, turn out. Make from one end of the buttonhole loop, sew the other end of the straps gently to the back of the jumpsuit. It remains to sew buttons. Our maternity romper is ready! You can decorate the front upper part of our jumpsuit with a pocket for small items, embroidery or appliqué. Then it will not only be convenient, but also acquire an individual design.

Easy pregnancy and safe delivery to you!
